Their life is larger than the photos in the box.

We turn family documents, photos, and artifacts into a private memoir
— shaped by the world and places they moved through.

Two parents and two young children kneeling on a patterned rug, looking through an open wooden box of old family portraits together

You know the box, the folder, the family files...

It came to you after the funeral, or it’s still on a shelf in your parents’ basement. Photographs of people you can almost name. Letters in handwriting you recognize but have never read. Every year, fewer people can say who’s who.

Family Memoir is for the person the box ended up with — the one in the family who keeps the stories.

Transform their story into robust memoirs

Each Family Memoir is a private website: chapters of narrative, original documents and photographs, and the history of the places they lived through. See real examples below.

“Every family has a box: photographs no one has labeled, letters no one reads, a story that gets shorter each time it’s retold. We started Family Memoir to keep the whole story, not just the files, and to keep those stories alive.”
A box of family letters, photographs, and keepsakes

The world around their life

  • The towns and streets as they were then
  • The eras and events they lived through
  • The migrations, industries, and wars that shaped them
  • Every outside fact footnoted to archives and encyclopedias
  • Silences named, never filled in

A narrative, not a folder

  • Written chapter by chapter, start to finish
  • Thousands of words of researched prose
  • Their own letters and words as the spine
  • Photographs captioned and placed where the story needs them
  • One timeline, contradictions flagged

From scattered papers to the detailed story of a life

Not a scrapbook dump. We weave your letters, records, photographs, and video into one researched narrative, grounded in the history of the places and eras they moved through — and deliver it as a private memoir website your family can return to, and pass on.

A living story

It arrives as a robust narrative. Then it keeps growing.

What we deliver is a private website, not a locked file. Chapters can be corrected, photographs added, names filled in as they surface — so the memoir your family opens years from now is fuller than the one you opened on the first day.

  • The family collaborates

Bring in the relatives who were actually there. A nickname, a face finally named, the real reason they left — what only they remember becomes part of the record instead of leaving with them.

  • Refine details as you learn

A date off by a year. A surname spelled the way a clerk once heard it. Tell us and the chapter changes — a memoir you’re able to correct is one your family can keep trusting.

  • Add new artifacts anytime

Photographs surface for years — an attic, a cousin’s hard drive, the back of a frame. Each one is written into the chapter it belongs to, held to the standard the first draft was held to.

As a Founding Family, the growing is covered by your annual price. No per-person fee, and the memoir stays yours to keep adding to. See what it costs.

Researched and written to an archivist’s standard

A memoir is only an heirloom if your family can trust it. Every line answers to the record.

  1. 01

    Their papers are the spine

Dates, addresses, ranks, their own words — facts from your family’s documents are stated plainly, exactly as the record shows them.

  2. 02

    Outside history is footnoted

Context we add from beyond the box — an era, a unit’s movements, a neighborhood’s story — carries numbered footnotes to reputable sources: national archives, historical foundations, encyclopedias.

  3. 03

    Nothing is invented

No guessed medals, dates, or events. If something can’t be confirmed, the memoir says so and lists it as an open question — and if two documents disagree, we flag it rather than smooth it over.

  4. 04

    Your wishes are honored

If you tell us “we never called him that,” it stays out — even where a document uses it. The tone stays reverent and warm, and the feeling comes from the documents, never from embellishment.

You can see this standard in the example memoirs — open one and check the footnotes yourself.

How it works

A collaboration, not a drop-off. You stay close to the story at every step.

  1. 01

    Upload what you have

Immigration papers, family letters, photographs, work or medical records, home video — the more the better. Share what you can digitally. We’ll guide you.

    Encrypted and private

What you upload is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored privately, and opened only by the people refining your memoir.

  2. 02

We research and fill in the gaps

Your documents are the starting point. We research the history around them — the towns, the eras, the events they lived through — and fill in what the family story never said.

    You refine the draft

You see the draft first. If a detail is wrong or a chapter misses its weight, we hone the story with you until it feels true.

  3. 03

    Receive your Family Memoir

A private website — your family’s memoir online. Open it and the story comes alive: the faces named, the letters translated, the story whole again. Yours to revisit, share, and evolve.

    Money back if it misses

If it doesn’t move you, we keep refining. If you’re still not happy, what you’ve paid comes back in full.

The story gets shorter each time it’s retold. This is how you make it complete again.

Questions, answered

What happens after I reserve?
We email you — a real person, not an autoresponder. We’ll send you a private link for uploading whatever you have, and guide you on what would help the story most. You can send things in batches as you find them; nothing needs to be sorted or complete (but that helps). Once your materials are in, we’ll quote you a price based on the quantity of artifacts, and agree a plan and timeline with you before anything is charged.
How long until my memoir is delivered?
Gathering usually takes families longer than the writing does, and there’s no rush on it: send things in batches as you find them. Once everything is in, delivery takes just a few days. We’ll confirm the date with you before we begin, and before anything is charged.
What exactly do I receive?
A private digital memoir — a website crafted for your family. It weaves documents, photos, and video into a narrative, with the history of the places and eras they lived through. You can revisit it anytime and share it with relatives. See examples
How does pricing work?
Registering your interest costs nothing. Once you upload your materials, we’ll quote you a price based on the quantity of artifacts — nothing is charged until you’ve seen that quote and confirmed it. As one of our Founding Families, you’ll get the best pricing.
Will I be charged today when I reserve?
No. We only save your payment method. Once you upload your materials, we’ll quote you a price based on the quantity of artifacts — you won’t be charged until you’ve confirmed that quote.
How do you get our family materials?
You upload them — photographs, letters, documents, home video — through a private link we send you after you reserve. Nothing needs to be sorted, labeled, or complete. You don’t need a perfect archive; we’ll work with what you have and tell you what would help most.
What if I don’t have digital copies of anything?
That’s where most families start. Photographs of your photographs are enough — laid flat in daylight, taken with your phone. We’ll walk you through it, tell you what’s legible and what needs another try, and you can send things in batches as you find them. Nothing has to be professionally scanned, and nothing irreplaceable ever has to leave your house.
What if I’m not happy with the result?
We’ll refine the memoir with you until it feels right. If you’re completely dissatisfied, we’ll refund what you’ve paid in full.
How is this different from scanning everything myself?
Scanning keeps the files. A Family Memoir tells the story — with historical context for the region and time — so the result feels like a memoir, not a folder dump.
How do I know what’s in the memoir is true?
Facts from your family’s own papers — dates, places, their own words — are the spine of the memoir. History we add from outside is footnoted to reputable sources like national archives and encyclopedias. And we never guess: if something can’t be confirmed, the memoir says so plainly instead of inventing it.
Is this a good gift for Mother’s or Father’s Day, a memorial, or an estate?
Yes. Many people reserve for a parent or grandparent as a gift, or to preserve a life after a memorial or estate moment. Tell us the occasion when you reserve so we can shape the tone.
Who can see the finished memoir?
It’s a private website for your family. We’ll share access details with you when it’s ready so you can pass it on as you wish.

The story has waited long enough.
